InSide upcoming : Kannur International Airport

Take a exclusive look into the 4th upcoming international airport in Kerala - Kannur International Airport, located 25 kilometers from the cities of Kannur and Thalassery in the state of Kerala. 



Currently under construction and is being built on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) of which Airports Authority of India has an equity stake of 10 percent while the state has stake of 35%, PSU 25% and investors 30%. KIAL intends Kannur International Airport to become a major airport.


As we speak today, our spotter from Trivandrum, Kerala - Nizam Ashraf brought this photos from the airport site, which shows us the scale of the project & work going on at the site. Kannur International Airport (ICAO: VOKN) is the 4th upcoming international airport in Kerala under construction at Mattanur, 25 kms from Kannur District, Kerala, India

This new airport will provide an international gateway in the northern Malabar region with state-of-the art facilities to support safe, efficient and cost effective travel for foreign tourists and ‘non-resident’ Indians from Kerala, as well as domestic passengers along with cargo operations for the region which is for spices, coir, coconut and other products has drawn an influx of traders from China, the Middle East and other areas from since ancient times..

  • Runway Width           :                    45m
  • RESA (Runway end safety area)  :  90 m x 240 m
Kannur will be the 4th airport in India to have a runway length of 4000m after Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
